Welcome

Contrast by Design specializes in creating truly unique pieces of art that include reproducing photographs on acrylics, as light-box back light art pieces, on wood and metal.

Contrast by Design is the creative brain child of founder and photographer Mark J. Dunn. It was created with idea that it would grow to include and the works of photographers such as Jennifer Vander Voort, of whom Mark currently is also representing. The site showcases works of both artists and allows access to purchase prints from both artists directly or via their affiliate site(s).

About Mark Dunn

Mark Dunn draws his artistic inspiration from Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Peter Max. As Mark is known for saying:  "Expressing distinctions between worlds of contrast brings understanding to our own. To understand our own is when we truly love ourselves!"

Mark brings his personal philosophy of the Universal Laws of Attraction into a discipline that begs for contrast. Mark has had the opportunity to travel around the world, camera in hand, exploring new cultures that hopefully culminate in that perfect light falling on that perfect subject at shutter speed. His artistic intent is to bring forth usual information and concepts of contrast in their simplest forms for a correlation that people see in their everyday lives.

Mark combines his love of photography with his fascination of contrasts. A nuanced shadow turns into a beautifully manipulated contrast. No matter how staggering the subject matter, Mark finds a way to break them down into simple devolving elements with spectacular results. Mark takes the adage, "it's all there in black and white" and leaves us to question: "Is it really?"

Mark Dunn was born in Akron, Ohio on September 8th 1963 and is the son of John & Ruth Dunn. His interest in photography began at a very early age. He enjoys the starkness of working with black and white, spending hours in darkrooms perfecting his craft. Mark currently calls Tampa, Florida home were he lives with his husband Russ Smith. However, Mark spends most his time traveling internationally always with camera close at hand.
